The State Level Eligibility Test (SLET), also known as the State Eligibility Test (SET), is a state-specific examination conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the role of Assistant Professor in universities and colleges within a particular state or region. Eligibility Criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories).
- Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing for the final year of their Master's Degree examination and are awaiting results may also apply.
- Age Limit:
- There is no upper age limit for applying to the SLET for the role of Assistant Professor.

Selection Procedure: The selection process involves a written examination comprising two papers:
- Paper I: Assesses teaching and research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension, and general awareness.
- Paper II: Focuses on the candidate's chosen subject of specialization.
Candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks specified by the respective SLET authority to be deemed eligible for the Assistant Professor role.
Exam Pattern:
The SLET examination consists of two papers, both featuring multiple-choice questions (MCQs):
- Paper I:
- Number of Questions: 50
- Total Marks: 100
- Duration: 1 hour
- Paper II:
- Number of Questions: 100
- Total Marks: 200
- Duration: 2 hours
Both papers are conducted consecutively on the same day.
