CISF AC LDC Exam Syllabus based updated study notes

The CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) Assistant Commandant (AC) Limited Departmental Competitive (LDC) Exam is a recruitment examination conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) for the post of Assistant Commandant in the CISF. It is specifically meant for departmental candidates, i.e., individuals already serving in the CISF.

Here are some important details about the exam:

1. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Service: Candidates must be in the rank of Sub-Inspector (GD)/Inspector (GD) with a minimum of 4 years of regular service as on 1st January of the examination year.

  • Age: The upper age limit is usually 35 years, with some relaxations for certain categories like SC/ST.

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.

2. Exam Pattern:

  • Paper 1: General Ability and Intelligence (Objective Type)

    • Topics: General awareness, current events, reasoning ability, quantitative aptitude, comprehension, and analytical ability.

    • Marks: 300

    • Duration: 2.5 hours

  • Paper 2: Essay, Precis Writing, and Comprehension (Descriptive Type)

    • Topics: Essay writing (on general topics), precise writing, comprehension, and other language skills.

    • Marks: 100

    • Duration: 2 hours

  • Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Test:

    • Candidates must meet specified physical standards such as height, chest (for males), and vision.

    • Physical efficiency test includes running, long jump, high jump, and shot put.

  • Personality Test/Interview: Candidates who clear the written examination and physical test are called for an interview, carrying 200 marks.

3. Syllabus Overview:

  • Paper 1:

    • General Knowledge and Current Events: National and international current affairs, history of India, Indian and world geography, Indian polity and governance, economic and social development, environmental issues, and general science.

    • Reasoning and Numerical Ability: Logical reasoning, arithmetic, data interpretation, and analytical skills.

  • Paper 2:

    • Essay writing: General topics related to politics, social issues, governance, security, etc.

    • Precise and comprehension writing skills.

4. Selection Process:

  • Stage 1: Written Examination (Paper 1 and Paper 2).

  • Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Medical Standards.

  • Stage 3: Interview/Personality Test.

  • Stage 4: Final merit list is prepared based on marks from the written exam and interview.

Paper I : General Ability and Intelligence and Professional Skill

PART-A : General Ability and Intelligence

In this paper, the objective type questions with multiple choices will broadly cover the following areas:

1. General Mental Ability

The questions will be designed to test the logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude including numerical ability and data interpretation.

2. General Science 

The questions will be set to test general awareness, scientific temper, comprehension and appreciation of scientific phenomena of everyday observation including new areas of importance like Information Technology, Biotechnology and Environmental Science.

3. Current Events of National and International Importance

The questions will test the candidates’ awareness of current events of national and international importance in the broad areas of culture, music, arts, literature, sports, governance, societal and developmental issues, industry, business, globalisation and interplay among nations.

4. General Awareness

The questions shall aim to test candidates’ general awareness and would inter-alia include question to test basic knowledge of history of India, Indian and World Geography as well as Indian Polity and Economy.

PART-B : Professional Skill

This test will be designed to test professional skills of the candidates in relation to operational and administrative requirement of the Central Industrial Security Force and will broadly cover the following areas:

1. CISF related professional skills 

  • Industrial Security;

  • Industrial Safety and fire fighting;

  • Disaster Management;

  • Aviation Security

  • Crime and Intelligence-Espionage, Sabotage, Subversion;

  • Perimeter Security

  • Security of vital installations-DAE, Metro Rail, Space;

  • Use of Technical Gadgets-Alarm, detection, intrusion, Access control, fire safety;

  • Bomb disposal;

  • VIP Security

  • Internal Security and Election duties.

  • Cr.PC (Search, Seizure and unlawful assembly)

Paper II : Essay, Précis Writing and Comprehension

This paper shall test candidates’ ability to bring to fore his/her ideas on the given essay topic, arrange them in a coherent, orderly, concise, understandable and lucid manner in effective and grammatically correct language free from spelling errors.

Further, this shall test candidates’ ability to understand the given passages for précis-writing and comprehension and their skills to summarise the précis passage and reply to the short-answered questions on the comprehension passage.
