IIT JEE Exam 2020 Complete Study Notes available

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) 2019 twice in a year for undergraduate engineering admissions into NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. There will be no change in the syllabus, exam pattern, fee or language of the exam. Around 26673 seats will be available to eligible candidates.

Number of Attempts : Twice in a year, Total - 6

JEE Main 2019 for January has been concluded however it will be conducted again as a computer-based test from April 6 to 20 again. The examination for the January session was conducted from 8 to 12 January.

As per the official notification, a total of 9,29,198 candidates have registered for Paper-I and 1,80,052 candidates had registered for Paper- 2.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the JEE Main 2019 Paper 2 result on January 31. The result is announced in online mode for all the candidates who have appeared for the Paper-2 exam. Along with the result, authorities have also released the final answer key of JEE Main Paper-2.

In the released answer key of Paper-2 of JEE Main 2019, two question from forenoon shift were dropped and full marks are awarded to the students. As per the official notification, a total number of 1, 80,052 candidates were registered for Paper –2 (B. Arch. /B. Planning.) for this session. While the result of paper 1 was announced on January 19 in the form of scorecard where subjectwise scores along with total scores for the January attempt were mentioned.  Earlier, NTA has released the final answer key of JEE Main 2019 for the first session on January 23 in the pdf format. 

Remember these dates

  1. JEE Main applications for the April exam will be available from February 8th to March 7th.

  2. Computer-based test will be conducted from 6 to 20 April 2019

  3. States that are part of the JEE Main system : Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Nagaland

  4. States that accept JEE Main scores : Rajasthan, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh

  5. Number of Seats Offered NITs - 17967; IIITs - 4023; and GFTIs - 4683

Eligibility criteria: The candidate must have been born on or after October 1, 1993. 

Candidates interested in applying need to be intermediate or class 12 pass from a recognised board and must have appeared and qualified in class 12th examination or should appear in the class 12 examination in 2018.

Aadhar mandatory: Moreover, CBSE has made it mandatory to have an Aadhar card to apply for the exam. Candidates who already have an Aadhar card will have to enter their aadhar number in their application form. Those who have applied for their Aadhar but have not received it yet will have to provide Aadhar enrollment ID in the application form.

Number of attempts: The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to three.

JEE Main 2018 cut-off

This year, the cut-off for the general category is 74. For OBC/NCL category, the cut-off is 45, SC-29, ST-34, PWD- 35.

Last year, the JEE main cut-off was pegged at 81 for general category, while the cut-offs for the OBC, SC and ST categories was at 49, 32 and 27 respectively. Also, this year, the IITs have decided to reserve seats for female candidates. As per reports, 779 reserve seats will be allocated in various IITs for female engineering candidates. IIT Kharagpur has 113 seats, IIT Dhanbad- 95 seats, IIT Kanpur- 79 seats, IIT BHU- 76, IIT Roorkee- 68, IIT Delhi- 59, IIT Bombay- 58, IIT Guwahati- 57.

JEE Main Qualifying Marks

Until now, the rank of JEE Main was determined by normalizing the class 12th score. However, from this year onwards the normalization will not be done. Hence, we have given the cutoff of JEE (or AIEEE) as well. As you can see in the below given table, the cutoff before normalization was very low. We do not claim that it will be low this year as well but have just given it for those curious minds who wish to know it.

Selection procedure for admission to IIT JEE

All those candidates who have successfully cleared the JEE (Mains) will be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam round. Students will be allotted colleges on the basis of these two written exams.

JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Exam Pattern

JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is a two tier examination (Main & Advanced) regulated by CBSE Board. Candidates can get admissions in B.Tech/B.Arch programmes offered by NITs, IIITs and other engineering institutions through JEE Main exam while IITs offer these courses through JEE Advanced exam.

JEE Main exam is also considered as a qualifying exam to appear JEE Advanced exam.

There will be two question papers in the IIT JEE Exam, each of three hours duration. Both the question papers will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The questions will be of objective type, designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates.

The answers for each of the questions are to be marked on a separate, specially designed, machine-gradable sheet of paper (ORS – Optical Response Sheet). While answering each of the questions the candidate is expected to darken the bubble(s) against correct answer(s) using black ball point pen only. In some sections, incorrect answers may be awarded negative marks.

Instructions for the Candidates

  • Candidates must ensure that the Test Booklet Code printed on Side 2 of JEE Main Answer Sheet is matching with the printed code on the Test Booklet. If it doesn’t match, then the candidate must immediately contact the invigilator for replacement of the Test Booklet as well as the Answer Sheet.

  • The exam takers should use blue/black ball point pen only for writing on both the sides of the answer sheet. They are strictly advised not to use pencil.

  • They must also cross-check that the total numbers of pages in the test-booklet are same as mentioned on the top of first page of the test booklet. The examinees must also verify the serial number and series of the test booklet with the serial number and series of OMR sheet.

  • For JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning), the candidates are advised to bring their own geometry box set, erasers, pencils and colour pencils or crayons.
