The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to the uniform nomenclature of seven security forces in India under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs. They are the Assam Rifles (AR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), National Security Guard (NSG), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) is an entrance exam which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission every year, for recruitment to the Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Police Forces (CPF) viz. Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Recruitment is conducted mainly in three modes
Gazetted Officers: Officers in CAPFs are recruited through the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination conducted by UPSC.
Subordinate Officers: Sub Inspectors are recruited through competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission and they are referred as DASOs (Directly Appointed Subordinate Officers).
Constables: Constables are recruited through competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission.
UPSC CAPF AC 2019: Eligibility
Age: The applicant has attained the age of 20 years and must not have attained the age of 25 years. Relaxation up to a maximum of five years in upper age limit for SC, ST and Kashmiri migrants. Those belonging to OBC category will get a relaxation of up to three years.
Educational qualification : Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognised institution.
Nationality: Candidates who want to apply for Union Public Service Commission Recruitment should be citizen of India. No person who is not a citizen of India shall, except with the consent of the Central Government signified in writing be appointed or employed under these Rules.
UPSC CAPF AC 2019: Exam pattern
The written examination to be conducted by Union Public Service Commission will comprise two papers: the paper I will be of general ability and intelligence for 250 marks and for the duration of two hours while the paper II will assess students on general studies, essay and comprehension. It will be of 200 marks and three hours duration. Paper I will be objective type while paper II will be descriptive.
1. Written examination
There are two papers in the UPSC CPF Written Exam.
Paper First : General Ability and Intelligence – 250 Marks
Paper I consists of Objective (Multiple Answers) Type questions and questions will be set in English as well as Hindi. There is negative mark and 1/3rd (0.33) mark will be cut for each wrong answer.
Paper Second : General Studies, Essay and Comprehension – 200 Marks
In this paper candidates will be allowed the option of writing the Essay Component in English or Hindi, but the medium of Precis Writing, Comprehension Components and other communications/language skills will be in English.
2. Physical Efficiency Tests (PET) & Medical Standards Tests
Candidates who are qualified in the written examination will be called for the Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests.
The qualified candidates in the Medical Standards Tests, will be called for Interview. Candidates who are short-listed for Interview / Personality Test, including those short-listed for Interview / Personality Test provisionally will be issued a Detailed Application Form (DAF) in which among other things, they will be required to indicate their preference of services. As female candidates are eligible for appointment to CRPF, CISF, SSB and BSF only, they will be required to indicate their preference for CRPF, CISF, SSB and BSF only. Interview will carry 150 Marks.
