UPTET Exam 2023

Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) is a state-level exam conducted once a year for the recruitment of primary (classes I-V) and upper primary (classes VI-VIII) level teachers in the schools of Uttar Pradesh. Every year, Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB) conducts the UPTET exam. However, in 2019 Exam Regulatory Authority, Uttar Pradesh released the UPTET notification on its official website - http://updeled.gov.in. 

Over 15 lakh candidates appear for UPTET exam every year. In 2019, total 16,34,249 candidates registered while 15,14,716 appeared for the exam. In 2018, total 18.25 lakh candidates registered while about 17 lakh students appeared for the exam.

Examination Pattern and details

UPTET Result & Eligibility Certificate 2020 

The UPTET 2020 result was made available on the official website of the Exam Regulatory Authority, Uttar Pradesh (updeled.gov.in) on February 7 at 4:30 PM. The result was released separately for primary and upper-primary levels. Candidates can check their UPTET result by using details such as application number and password till March 6, 2020. It may be noted that the UPTET 2019-20 result was first declared in the late evening of February 6. However, the result was visible on the official website from February 7 onwards.

Candidates scoring 60 per cent (55 per cent for reserved category) or more marks in UPTET 2020 exam have been declared qualified for the exam. Over 3.5 lakh candidates have qualified the UPTET 2020 exam out of the 15 lakh candidates who had appeared for the test. Out of this, 29.74 per cent candidates have passed the test for paper-I (primary level) and 11.46 per cent candidates have cleared the test for paper-II (upper-primary level).

All candidates qualifying the exam will now be issued UPTET eligibility certificate 2020. The validity of eligibility certificate will be five years. Based on the UPTET eligibility certificate candidates will be able to apply for the post of teacher in the government schools of Uttar Pradesh.

The exam was held from 10:00 AM-12:30 PM for paper-I and 2:30-5:00 PM for paper-II at various centres across Uttar Pradesh. Soon after the exam was over, Shiksha reached out to students to know the difficulty level of both the papers.

UPTET paper-I was of moderate difficulty level. However, as compared to Central Teacher Eligibility Test 2019 (CTET 2019), the paper was harder. The level of UPTET paper-II was also moderate to difficult. As compared to CTET paper-II, the exam was more difficult. 

UPTET Selection Process

UPTET selection process includes the following stages:

  • Written exam: UPTET exam consists of two papers. Paper-I needs to be given by aspirants who plan to teach classes I-V. Paper-II needs to be given by candidates who plan to teach classes VI-VIII. Candidates who plan to teach classes I-VIII need to appear for both the papers.

  • UPTET result: UPTET result is announced by the exam conducting authority on the official website of the exam. Candidates scoring minimum 60 per cent marks in the written test are declared UPTET qualified.

  • UPTET eligibility certificate Candidates qualifying the written test are issued an eligibility certificate by the exam authority. Candidates having the certificate are eligible to apply for teaching jobs in the schools of Uttar Pradesh. The validity of UPTET eligibility certificate is five years.

UPTET 2020 Syllabus

UPTET syllabus 2020 will be released on the official website of the exam along with the release of the notification tentatively in October. However, the UPTET syllabus remains majorly unchanged every year. Therefore, given below is UPTET exam syllabus of previous year so that candidates can go through each topic thoroughly and prepare themselves well for the paper. The UPTET syllabus for paper-I and -II contains the list of subjects and topics from which questions are asked in the teacher eligibility test.

  • This paper focuses on the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to classes 1 to 5.
  • Topics in this paper focus on understanding the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.
  • UPTET Syllabus is based on the topics given in NCERT Books of class I-V.
  • The section on Maths and EVS evaluates a candidate on his facts, concepts, and understanding of the subject.
  • Language papers simply test the candidate for skills of instructions medium.
